RESIDENTS living in the Datuk Sulaiman area in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, said the poor timing of traffic lights is causing traffic congestion.

The complainant, who wants to be identified as Azri, said the number of vehicles tended to back up, especially during morning peak hours, due to the brief timing of the traffic lights.

“Residents in the Jalan Datuk Sulaiman area would choose that road to get to work. Usually it will take us more than 10 minutes to drive out of Jalan Datuk Sulaiman.

“I hope the authorities will increase the green-light period for vehicles coming from Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 2,” he said.

An Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS) call centre spokesman said most of the traffic lights in Kuala Lumpur used a sensor system to detect the number of vehicles.

“If there is something wrong with the sensor, then the traffic light will go green for a shorter period.”

He said motorists could lodge a complaint  using the call centre’s hotline number 03-2691 5128 if they were facing such problems.

“Usually, the traffic lights will be monitored through our computer system. However, this is hampered by construction work. So, it is really important they call and inform us.”
