THE road connecting Kampung Alor Madi and Kampung Alor Ganu to Alor Star city has eroded so badly causing much concern among daily commuters.

Kg Alor Madi’s Village Development and Security Committee chairman Ismail Rejab said the most erosion was along the Anak Bukit river, which began after a downpour several months ago.

“The erosion is along a 3-km stretch of road located along the Anak Bukit river.

“The road is now impassable for heavy vehicles, causing a problem for padi farmers who need to transport their machinery to the field,” he said.

ACTIONLINE:

Titi Gajah sub-district penghulu Mohd Ridzuan Abdul Razak said the Kota Setar district office was working closely with the Drainage and Irrigation Department to rectify the problem.

He said pending repair work, expected to be carried out next year, villagers could use alternative routes.

“For villagers in Kampung Alor Madi, they could exit at Taman Aman, Anak Bukit while those living in Kampung Alor Ganu can exit at Kepala Batas.

“We are pushing for repair work to be conducted sooner to ease the problem faced by villagers,” he said.

Ridzuan agreed that the road erosion was due to a large
volume of water in the Anak Bukit river following heavy rain.
