The abandoned vehicles at a car park in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. Residents say the vehicles have been left in the parking area for more than two years.

ABANDONED taxis have taken over a car park in the busy Chow Kit area.

Yeap Cheng Hoe, who works in the area, said the taxis had been left there for more than two years.

“Officegoers have no choice but to park illegally. Some had their cars clamped and fined.”

Yeap said the taxis were owned by a small taxi company which started operations two years ago.

“The company went bankrupt and left the taxis there.”

He claimed that the firm had ignored summonses issued by City Hall.

ACTIONLINE:

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said the taxis occupied paid parking lots. He said City Hall would tow the cars away soon.

“To ensure that legal action can be taken against the taxi firm, we will tow the cars away by Wednesday.”

Those who wish to file a complaint about abandoned vehicles can contact City Hall at 603-79821010.

To claim a towed vehicle, its owner needs to present the original vehicle registration card and vehicle cover note.
