HONG Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has unveiled its much anticipated scooter, the NVX155.
Promoted as “The Revolution in Innovation”, the Yamaha NVX, also known as the Aerox in other markets, is packed with innovative features not found on other scooters.
Powered by the same engine as its sibling, the NMax, the NVX is designed to appeal to a younger audience.
The power unit is a “Blue Core” liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 155cc four-stroke engine with VVA (variable valve actuation). Though the engine is essentially the same unit as the NMax, it is in a higher state of tune and produces a more spirited acceleration and ride.
As the sporty sibling, the NVX is to be featured in a one-make race during Malaysian Cub-Prix events. The NVX race is designed to promote young riders into the CubPrix scene. The first race will be held during the 6th round.
Datuk Jim Khor, HLYM’s managing director, said: “The NVX comes with a 5.8-inch digital colour LCD meter that displays the tachometer, speedometer, VVA indicator and odometer. Above that, its premium attributes include a smart key system and a start/stop system for better fuel efficiency.”
The smart key feature of the NVX allows keyless ignition and a locator device. It is uniquely designed with a keycode that may be utilised in case of damage or loss of the smart key.
Other features include 14-inch rims with wide tubeless tyres, 25 litres of storage space under the seat, twin LED headlights and an LED taillight and brake light.
The NVX is a certified energy-efficient vehicle with a 2.2 litres per kilometre fuel consumption rating. With a fuel capacity of 4.6 litres, the NVX will cruise highways effortlessly.
The front suspension is a telescopic fork and the rear features twin shock absorbers. The front disc brake is paired with a drum on the rear. A notable feature is the addition of anti-lock braking system as standard. The NVX weighs a scant 118kg despite being a fair bit larger than the NMax.
Being one of the most anticipated models launched by HLYM, the NVX is sure to be a hot seller. The NVX retails for RM10,500 and HLYM initially projects to sell at least 600 units per month although HLYM will easily be able to produce more if demand warrants it.
The NVX is available in three colours — red, black or blue. The first few units are projected to arrive at Yamaha dealerships nationwide by the end of this month.
