Two Malaysian labels collaborate on a capsule collection so you can step in style this festive season, writes Aznim Ruhana Md Yusup.

A MAJOR tradition for those celebrating Hari Raya is visiting family and friends. There’s food to be had, news to catch up on and duit raya for the young ones.

The festivities are anchored by the spirit of forgiveness and familial blessings, as well as hopes of getting together again next year.

So given the number of homes we visit, plus the custom of not wearing shoes inside the house, it’s important that we pick the right footwear.

As shoe designer Nelissa Hilman explains, you need something you can slip in and out of with ease.

This Aidilfitri, Nelissa is collaborating with Malaysian design house Mimpikita for a limited edition capsule collection.

Consisting of eight designs, the collection titled #MKxNHLebaran took about nine months from start to finish.

“We have never done a Raya collection before,” says Nelissa during the launch at her brand’s pop-up store in Bangsar Village II.

“But Mimpikita has always gone big for Hari Raya, so it’s the right time to collaborate.”

To facilitate the wearer slipping in and out of her shoes during Raya, the designs in #MKxNHLebaran are either slide sandals or sling-backs.

But the festive season is also a chance to be a little ostentatious, hence the use of shiny satin and pearl embellishments.

There are designs with chunky heels in two-toned colours and other neutral hues, but the emerald green flats with the pearls feel particularly rich and festive for the coming celebrations.

“We have the support of Mimpikita to go slightly different than what we usually do in our own collection. And the embellishments fit with its Marrakech-inspired Raya line,” adds Nelissa.

The #MKxNHLebaran collection retails between RM195 and RM290. It’s available at Nelissa Hilman outposts and online at The limited-edition collection will also be available online and in-store at Mimpikita and FashionValet.
