KUALA LUMPUR: Pop art genre, WPAP is proving to be a hot trending item at the ‘Pameran Kreatif Wanita’ at Laman Puteri in Putra World Trade Centre.

Visitors can take a closer look at this style of portrait rendition, which is currently being showcased at the exhibition held in conjunction with the 71st Umno General Assembly.

According to the manager of Pemasaran Cetakayu Anis Fitrah Ilahi, a WPAP-style portrait of the nation’s second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and the father of the current prime minister, was sold on Thursday for RM250.

The 24-year-old said the WPAP wood-based printing technique has only recently entered Malaysia.

WPAP stands for Wedha's Pop Art Portraits, a pop art style created by Indonesian Wedha Abdul Rasyid, a senior artist and illustrator.

The main characteristic of this type of pop art is its use of geometric shapes.

“Today, we are photographing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and third Prime Minister Tun Hussein Onn,” she said.

Anis said the wood-based printed portraits can be durable and are easy to keep.

She adds that family photographs or even wedding shots can also be converted into timeless WPAP pieces.
