ALOR STAR: The 14th General Election (GE) will be a showdown between a "pro-rakyat Barisan Nasional (BN) versus a pro-DAP Pakatan", said Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
He said this will be the key message Umno plans to convey to its grassroots level and the people as the party kicks off its nationwide tour in Kedah today.
Annuar said it is paramount for Umno and BN to inform its members and the people at large that the next polls will be a battle between a coalition with a proven track record and a DAP-centric pact.
"We want to deliver a clear message to the people that GE14 will be about a showdown between a pro-rakyat BN and a pro-DAP coalition.
"We want the people to understand that BN has always been a government by the people and for the people, and we will always hold to that principle.
"On the other side, there is this pact of political parties who are riding on the popularity of DAP to win votes.
"PPBM (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) may deny that they have to bow down to DAP in order to get votes but we all are aware if what is actually transpiring," Annuar said at the state Umno headquarters this morning, as he led the 'Jelajah Mesra Penerangan Roadshow' here.
He hinted that besides national-level manifesto, Umno and BN will also have localised manifesto at the parliamentary level to reflect the aspiration of the voters at the respective constituency.
"It is important for us to come up with a mini manifesto for each constituency as it will reflect our commitment in fulfilling the aspirations of our voters as every constituency has its own issues that needed to be addressed," he said.
On the roadshow, Annuar said the two-day programmes in Kedah will adopt a new comprehensive approach to reach out to the 'rakyat' which comprises of a walkabout, house-to-house visit, casual talks and an open political rally.
"By going down to the ground, we will be able to feel the pulse of the people, their issues, what do they hope from the government.
"We will compile all the feedback and inputs gathered throughout the roadshow and convey them to government, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak administration's the people first philosophy," he said.
Annuar is scheduled to attend at least seven programmes in Jerlun today before heading for a political rally in Padang Serai later this evening.
The roadshow also being held simultaneously in several other parliamentary constituencies in Kedah from today till tomorrow.
The next stop will be in Perlis, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang and other states.
