GOLFER Ben Leong established a one-stroke lead ahead of Scotland's James Byrne and Jay Bayron of the Philippines at the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Northport Glenmarie Championship.
The 2008 Selangor Masters winner concluded his first round at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club with a bogey-free round of eight-under-par 64, while Byrne and Bayron shared second place at seven-under-par 65.
Gavin Green, who replaced Danny Chia as the national number one and runner-up of the Hero Indian Open, failed to find his stride to collect two bogeys and only one birdie to conclude his round with a score of one-over-par 73.
The 23-year-old shared 71st position with 16 other golfers including Khor Kheng Hwai.
After winning two PGM titles this year, Kheng Hwai has seen better days as he carded four bogeys and three birdies.
Danny, who was initially registered to play, was forced to withdraw at the last minute due to personal reasons.
The Asian Development Tour co-sanctioned event will continue today with the last round to be played on Mar 18.
