KUALA TERENGGANU: As Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to issue a war cry for the 14th general election very soon, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged its grass roots to unite and set aside their differences for the interest of the party.
He said the party does not need any internal instigators or backstabbers, as the main target now is to handle external threat, referring to the Opposition parties.
“All conflicts between each other in the party should be resolved by now. I know some divisions are riddled with problems. If they still want to fight, wait until the general election is over.
“We will lose our focus if we entertain internal conflicts all the time.
“All party leaders should go down to the grass roots and listen to their needs and grouses now, as it will be too late to do so when the Parliament is dissolved,” he said when launching the Umno Kuala Terengganu branch meeting here this evening.
Zahid asked all party members to keep their momentum and maintain their high spirit and energy when the general election date is announced.
He said that he has faith in Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman’s leadership as the state’s Umno liaison chairman and that the state will again be under the rule of BN, with more seats to be won this time.
“I expect zero defects in our preparatory works for the general election. There must be follow-ups in every task undertaken to ensure it is properly executed,” he added.
Zahid noted that BN derived its strength from 78.7 per cent of Malay supporters.
