MARANG: Police here believe that three Rohingya suspects in the murder of a 35-year-old fellow Rohingya at a house in Kampung Pak Madah here, on Saturday, are still hiding in the state.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Suhaimi Ali said the trio will be captured soon.
"We have a strong lead that they are still in the state and in hiding, and we are tracking them closely at present," he revealed today.
Police, however, managed to detain a fourth Rohingya man – a 33-year-old friend of the three suspects – and obtained a six-day remand order against him.
In the meantime, Suhaimi said police are awaiting the full report of the post mortem.
State Criminal Investigations Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said the main suspect in the case has been identified as Qari, 30.
On Saturday, neighbours of the victim found him lying in a pool of blood in his house at 11pm, following a confrontation with the three suspects.
Police seized knives, hammers, three helmets covered in blood stains and other items in the house, believed used in the attack.
"The victim suffered several stab wounds in his back and chest, and injuries on his head," Suhaimi said, adding that police are looking at jealousy as the motive for the killing.
