JOHOR BARU: A 55-year-old grandmother and her 35-year-old son-in-law claimed trial at the Johor Baru Magistrate Court today for child abuse.

Noor Azaizah Badang and Maswandi Omar were both charged for inflicting physical abuse on a 13-year old girl, who is the granddaughter and niece to the two accused.

The alleged abuse was committed at a house in Bandar Baru Uda between the year 2010 and May 2017.

After the charges were read to them, both pleaded not guilty to the offence and Maswandi could be seen continuously shaking his head.

In court, counsel Mohd Shahid Abd Malik, who represented Noor Azaizah, made an appeal to magistrate Noor Aisyah Ahmad for a lower bail.

“My client is old and her husband has left her. She is making a living helping a friend sell nasi lemak and she only earns RM500 a month,” he pleaded.

Shahid also said his client has a 16-year-old youth under her care.

Meanwhile, Maswandi who was unrepresented, made an appeal for lower bail on his own.

Noor Aisyah granted a RM5,000 bail for Noor Azaizah and RM8,000 for Maswandi and fixed July 10 for mention.
