IPOH: Police have recorded statements from its officers to assist investigations into the case where seven men claimed they have been ill-treated while in police custody.
"We have taken their statements recently to assist the probe," said Ipoh police chief Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong after attending the district police headquarters' monthly assembly at Pasir Putih police station here today.
Yesterday, Perak Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Sum Chang Keong said police have opened an investigation paper into the case and were checking the men's claim as per Pekan Bharu report.
It was reported that the men, from Sungai Siput, had allaged that they have been forcefully arrested and remanded by police on May 18.
One of the victims, S. Ashoovendiran, 24, claimed that he, his brother S. Prashantran, 22 and their friend K. Nuren Raj Kumar, 28, a Singaporean were beaten up by three policemen after they were picked up at his house at 21, Kampung Ramasamy in Sungai Siput Utara.
They said police suspected they were involved in a convenience store robbery.
