RAUB: A man who kidnapped a teenage girl, impersonated a policeman, used a fake pistol and cheated was sentenced to five years and six months jail as well as five strokes of the rotan here.
Mohd Faizal Sinorcho, 31, who is known as “Sergeant Faiz” based on the name he used when impersonating a policeman, betrayed no emotion when Magistrate Khairuddin Anhar Mahmud meted the punishment.
In the dock, Faizal, clad in purple lockup uniform and with his hands behind his back, pleaded guilty to five charges - one for kidnapping, two for impersonating a public servant, one for possessing a fake pistol, and one for cheating.
Unrepresented, he bowed his head to hide his face from the cameras of media photographers and broadcast journalists as two policemen escorted him out of court. Prosecuting officer Mohd Faizal Samshir prosecuted.
Faizal’s exploits came to the light on Dec 27 last year when he abducted a 16-year-old girl right before her 38-year-old mother.
In the 11am incident at the victim's house at Kampung Ulu Gali, Sungai Ruan here, Faizal had pretended to be "Sergeant Faiz" - purportedly attached to the Sungai Ruan police station - and asked for permission to let the girl help him retrieve a motorcycle at a shop here.
The teenager had then followed him in his car and they left the scene.
On that day, girl’s mother then contacted the Sungai Ruan police station, which denied there was any "Sergeant Faiz" attached with them.
The victim's frantic mother had then lodged a police report.
Faizal also had in his possession a fake black-coloured pistol - of a "Siti" brand - without valid permit.
At 3pm later the same, the girl called her mother to say that she was with the suspect in Gua Musang, Kelantan, before the line went dead.
The teenager was found safe at a bus station in Raub at 11.05am on Dec 29.
The girl’s photographs then went viral online as netizens became shocked with the incident.
Following a 10-day manhunt, Faizal was nabbed by the police at a hotel at Jalan Dr Nazrin Shah in Ipoh, Perak, at 2.05am on Jan 6.
With his arrest, the police uncovered his involvement in a two-year-old case where he pretended to be "Inspector Khuzairi" to cheat one Fatimah Sulaiman, 63.
On Dec 9, 2016, at 6.30pm, Faizal pretended to be "Inspector Khuzairi" to hoodwink Fatimah into handing over RM500.
While under the guise of a law enforcer, Faizal had comvinced Fatimah that the money is meant for the release of her 41-year-old son Azuan Ariffin from a drug charge.
At a location unspecified by the charge, she had banked in the money into the bank account of one A. Aravintan.
