KUALA LUMPUR: A jobless woman was charged at the Sessions Court here today with abusing a friend’s four-year-old daughter last year.
R. Seetha, 28, however pleaded not guilty before judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah.
She was accused of intentionally abusing the victim, causing the latter to suffer bruises and scars on her face, body, legs, hands and head.
She allegedly committed the offence at a house she rented in Taman Kuchai Jaya, Brickfields, here, about 5.30pm on Dec 12, last year.
The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Aris Kamaluddin prosecuted. The accused was unrepresented.
The court allowed a RM4,000 bail with one surety and ordered the accused to stay away from the victim and to report to the nearest police station twice a month.
The case will be up for mention on June 1.
