KUALA LUMPUR: A criminal gang known as “Geng Ady” which has been involved in robbery by impersonating as policemen for the past two months, was crippled with the arrest of 10 individuals including two women in separate raids in Cheras and Selayang on Oct 2.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah said the group activities which often targeted foreign nationals were exposed following the arrest of a man believed to be a member of the group at Jalan Doraisamy here in early October.

In a press conference at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here, today, Shararuddin said Geng Ady operated in groups of four or five where members impersonate police personnel by intimidating foreign workers in order to have access to their homes.

At the victim’s house, he said the gang would instruct the victim and his friends to hand over their money and hand phones and threaten to take them to the police station.

Shaharuddin said with the arrest of all the suspects, aged 18 to 26 years, police also seized several mobile phones of various brands, credit cards and a rented Perodua Alza car that was used for robbery. –- BERNAMA
