SHAH ALAM: The government will not wait for the finalisation of the 2050 National Transformation (TN50) to embark on efforts to enhance the public transportation system in the country.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said while the government is still in the process of gathering views which will chart TN50's 30-year plan for Malaysia from 2020 to 2050, taking place simultaneously are rail transportation system projects such as the MRT and LRT.
"We will not wait for TN50 because the period is far away. We will continue to develop our public transportation system now because it is necessary to fulfill the needs of the people.
"It is also regardless of whether the area is being held by the government or the opposition. As a responsible government, we must serve the people in developing our system transportation.
"From time to time, we are always to ensure that it continues to be improved and we will do it consistently," said Nancy tonight.
She said this during a TN50 dialogue held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)'s Kolej Melati,here.
The dialogue was also attended by UiTM deputy vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Abdullah Mohamad Said and Kolej Melati principal Muhamed Faeiz Alwee, as well as 1,200 UiTM students from it colleges.
Various views were aired during the dialogue session, ranging from free education, affordable and efficient public transportation to higher wages.
