ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees at three relief centres in Kota Setar district here remains at 175 people from 53 families, as of 8am today.
A spokesman with the state Natural Disaster Management Committee said the victims are taking shelter at Surau As Syakirin and SK Haji Abu Bakar in Bukit Pinang, and SK Titi Gajah.
He said SK Titi Gajah has the most number of evacuees, at 74 people from 23 families.
"At SK Haji Abu Bakar, the number of evacuees remains at 55 people from 17 families; while Surau As Syakirin is still housing 46 people from 13 families," he said in a statement.
Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar districts were hit by flash floods following heavy rainfall which lasted six hours on Wednesday morning.
This is the second wave of flooding in the districts, following the first wave three weeks ago, which forced over 3,000 people from several districts to seek shelter at relief centres for several days.
Last month, flooding occurred following an unusual two-day downpour, which exceeded the monthly average rainfall in some of the affected areas.
