KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Youth executive council member Muhammad Hafiz Azhar has expressed regret at having joined the fledgling political party.

Hafiz is set to face the party's disciplinary committee after having publicly demanded that two senior PPBM leaders explain personal allegations hurled against them.

Hafiz, addressing a press conference today, said he was disappointed with PPBM.

“I am disappointed because I wrongly chose a struggle," he said.

Hafiz is in the hot seat after asking PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to clarify claims over the latter’s family’s allegedly immense wealth. Hafiz had also urged party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to explain allegations that he had an extramarital affair.

Hafiz reasoned that he was merely conveying questions from the grassroots.

“I hope that others, especially the youth who want to join PPBM, think their decision carefully. Look at what happened to me.”

“This is a party that also touted itself as a democratic organisation for youths. But look what happened to me.

“Cyber troopers attacked me to wipe me out. Their claims that they are a democratic party are all a lie," he said.

Hafiz also claimed that he and his family had been hit by a barrage of attacks on social ever since he publicly demanded answers on Saturday.

He did not rule out the possibility of quitting the party but wants to wait and see the outcome of the issues.

On Sunday, PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said Hafiz must face the party's disciplinary committee for his demands that two senior PPBM leaders clear the air on their respective 'personal issues.'

Mukhriz had said that there are rules that must be followed within the party, and that Hafiz should have gone through ‘proper channels.’

Earlier today, PPBM Youth exco Mohamad Taufik Abas responded to Mukhriz’s statement and said the latter should have defended Hafiz, not punish him.

Taufik said it was also uncalled for that Mukhriz accused Hafiz of being planted by Umno to cause trouble internally.
