KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong has made the prediction that the much-anticipated 14th general election (GE14) will likely take place next year.
He also confirmed that Gerakan will be contesting in 45 Parliamentary and state seats.
"There are lots of indications that the general election may not be held this year, but we will continue to do our work on the ground.
"All of our 45 coordinators have been identified and they will be given multimedia training.
"The indications are that the elections will not be held so (soon). We will continue with our services and organise on the ground," he told a press conference at the Gerakan headquarters here today.
Gerakan currently has two Members of Parliament and three assemblymen in Johor and Sabah respectively.
Many political observers have speculated that the GE14 will be called towards the end of 2017, before Barisan Nasional's’ current mandate ends in 2018.
