KANGAR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) appeared to be dominant in Pakatan Harapan although it is the newest member in the opposition pact.
Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan cited the appointment of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan chairman after the restructuring of the pact, goes to prove PPBM’s dominance.
He added that the naming of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the opposition de facto leader did not mean much as the latter was still behind bars.
“Pas is not interested in meddling in their affairs but from a political view, the pact’s composition seems odd as usually a pact will only be led by a chairman but Pakatan Harapan is led not only by a chairman, but also de facto leader and president.
“On top of that, how can someone, who is currently serving jail term, be appointed a leader in a pact contesting in general election?” he said this at Munaqasyah Pas President Key Address and Perlis Pas Aidilfitri openhouse here today.
Pakatan Harapan President Council meeting on Thursday has announced Anwar as its de facto leader, Dr Mahathir as chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the pact president.
The appointment was unanimously agreed by PKR, DAP, PPBM and Parti Amanah Negara.
