KOTA BARU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will attend a meet-the-people gathering at the Kelantan Poverty Foundation (YKK) Complex in Melor here on Friday.

More than 10,000 people are expected at the event, and Zahid will be met on arrival by Kelantan Umno leaders led by state Umno liaison committee chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

Earlier, Ketereh Umno division information chief Ahmad Termizi Musa said the DPM's entourage will also be greeted by 1,000 superbikers bearing party and state flags.

Elaborating on the welcome ceremony, he said Zahid will be greeted in the tradition of a Malay warrior and will be accompanied by traditional martial arts masters (bearing a hand-written Quran and an old kris) and 100 people carrying the pulut semangat.

"At the event, the DPM will give away awards to 100 people in the Ketereh constituency in 25 categories," he said in a statement.

Termizi added that Zahid will perform Friday prayers at the Bukit Marak mosque after a rest at the residence of Ketereh Umno division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

He said Zahid will then attend a Hari Raya gathering with heads of departments and community leaders at the Kelantan Umno building before departing for Kuala Lumpur.

Termizi added that the public is welcome to attend the event to show their support for the DPM.
