MELAKA: A political party set up just to carry out a personal vendetta will not last long and cannot challenge Umno, which has been at the forefront of championing the welfare and betterment of the people.
Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said “a certain party which has a flower as its emblem” does not have a clear direction like Umno, and is based only on personal vested interests.
"A political party must have fighting spirit, compared to this ‘flower party’ which, for the past two or three days, (seems to) not have any direction.
“What is their direction? If it is set up just to embark on a personal vendetta and (realise) vested interests, believe me, this flower party will not last long," Najib said here while opening the Umno Bukit Katil division meeting.
The Prime Minister did not mention the party he was referencing by name, but it is understood that he was referring to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
Najib said Umno party members should emulate former Deputy Prime Minister, the late Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba, who despite not holding any political posts, continued to serve the party.
"I see the late Abdul Ghafar as a symbol of lifelong loyalty, who continued to serve the party as a true Umno loyalist.
Najib said he remembers the first Prime Minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, once mentioning that Tun Abdul Ghafar considered political posts as unimportant compared to the Umno party and serving the people.
Najib also condemned a past leader whom he said benefitted from becoming prime minister, but is now on course to destroy the party.
"This is not rational, and we cannot support such leaders because we know that only a political institution like Umno can bring hope to the people,” he added.
