KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will handily lead Barisan Nasional (BN) to regaining its two-thirds majority in the 14th general election (GE14) if component parties stay united and set aside internal conflicts.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said maintaining the two factors is crucial, and could determine BN's fate.
"The most important thing is for members to stay united and set aside any internal conflict. If these two elements are observed, we will be able to secure a two-thirds majority in the next general election.
“This is on top of strong support from BN components, as well as efforts to capture the hearts and minds of the on-the-fence voters," he told a press conference at the Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today.
Zahid said that Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak outlined ways for the party to achieve this in his policy address, in which he called for members and leaders to move swiftly as a team and fight in cyber wars (against the opposition), with confidence.
"Close cooperation among component parties and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) is also vital in ensuring that we are able to achieve the two-thirds majority.
"The president also reminded us that there will be a hefty price to pay should BN lose in GE14.
"I will lead the party machinery, together with those of the state information, state assemblies and district polling centres, in preparing for GE14," Zahid added.
