The BA of Malaysia (BAM) will make an announcement on the appointment of a new men's doubles coach on Thursday, to replace outgoing Jeremy Gan.

KUALA LUMPUR: The BA of Malaysia (BAM) will make an announcement on the appointment of a new men's doubles coach on Thursday, to replace outgoing Jeremy Gan.

BAM general manager Michelle Chai said a statement will be issued on the new coach, who will join the national body as assistant to head coach Cheah Soon Kit.

“We will try to issue the statement as soon as possible, and the matter will not be brought up to the C&T (Coaching and Training) committee as stated in earlier reports,” said Chai.

It is understood that the C&T, chaired by BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, will not be meeting anytime soon.

“Actually, all five head coaches report directly to Norza, who is also the C&T chairman. That does not mean that decisions will be made by C&T.

“We just hope that nobody will get the wrong message, thinking that the C&T met today or will be meeting tomorrow. BAM will announce the appointment of the new men's doubles coach tomorrow (Thursday).”

On Tuesday, Soon Kit revealed that three names have been shortlisted for the position.

He also added that the names have been handed over to the management and that they will be called in for interviews soon.

Despite BAM's decision to keep mum on the matter, it is learnt that former internationals Lee Wan Wah, Chew Choon Eng and Chan Chong Ming have been under the national body's radar for some time.

After serving BAM as coach for the past 15 years, Jeremy decided to call it quits late last month.
