KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia have been placed in an easy group for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games mixed team badminton competition.
The national team are in Group D with Canada, Seychelles and Ghana.
Team manager Taupik Hussain said the easy draw will allow the coaches to rotate players in the group stage.
“All those selected will get a chance to play at least a match in the mixed team event,” said Taupik.
“This will ensure that our top players are fresh for the individual events.
“However, I do not want them to take it easy in the mixed team competition. They need to focus and do their best in every match.”
Those selected for the Commonwealth Games are World No 2 Lee Chong Wei, Tan Wee Kiong, Goh V Shem, Chan Peng Soon dan Tan Kian Meng, Goh Liu Ying, Lai Pei Jing, Goh Jin Wei, Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei.
The BA of Malaysia have set a three-gold target for the Gold Coast event.
In the 2014 Glasgow edition, Malaysia won gold medals through V Shem-Wee Kiong, Vivian-Khe Wei and the mixed team event.
