KUALA LUMPUR: National men's doubles coach Cheah Soon Kit wants Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong to up their performance when they start their campaign in the All England, which starts on Wednesday, in Birmingham.
V Shem-Wee Kiong, who exited the semi-finals of the recent German Open, will open against fifth seeds Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda of Japan.
On paper, the Japanese pair have a slight edge having won four of the five previous encounters against the Malaysians.
"It is going to be tricky for V Shem-Wee Kiong as they are up against Kamura-Sonoda so early in the competition. I hope V Shem-Wee Kiong will do their best and forget about the past results.
"Their semi-final feat at the German Open should serve as a motivation. I think they made progress in that tournament," said Soon Kit when contacted in Birmingham on Monday.
At the German Open, V Shem-Wee Kiong were defeated by Takuto Inoue-Yuki Kaneko in three games.
"I am pleased with their overall performance in Germany. I could see how much they wanted to get back to their best.
"There is still the All England for me to assess them. I do not want to pressure the boys, but I dare say that they are on the right track to get back to where they were before," added Soon Kit.
