KUALA LUMPUR: The Asian Golf Tour has released the first part of its 2018 calendar with two of the 12 to be staged in Malaysia.
Malaysia will see some of the best European and Asian players do battle at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, when they play in the biennial team match-play, the Eurasia Cup.
Offering a massive US$4.8 million (RM19.8 million) purse, the Asian Tour and European Tour’s version of the Ryder Cup has seen Team Europe win the contest in the previous edition while the inaugural show in 2014 saw Team Asia force a dramatic 10-10 draw.
Set to tee off on Jan 12-14, the 2018 edition will see the European team led by Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn and Team Asia by Arjun Atwal.
The next meet in Malaysia will be the lucrative US$3 million (RM12.4million) Maybank Championship which returns to Saujana Golf and Country Club in its third edition.
For world number nine, Henrik Stenson, this will be his second visit to Malaysia in two months as the Swede is also listed on the Eurasia Cup European team and confirmed as one of the big names to tee off at the Maybank Championship (Feb 1-4).
The 2018 Asian Tour will tee off in Thailand where the annual qualifying school will be held and at the end of it, the top 35 finishers will earn Asian Tour cards.
