KUALA LUMPUR: 2017 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Gavin Green is confident that Asia will upset defending champions Team Europe in next month’s EurAsia Cup.
Gavin, 23, make up Asia’s 12-man team also comprising Nicholas Fung, Yuta Ikeda, Hideto Tanihara, Li Haotong, Anirban Lahiri. S.S.P. Chawrasia, Poom Saksansin, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Phachara Khongwatmai, An Byeong Hun and Sung Hoon Kang.
“This will be something very new for me. It is a young team with experiences in major Tours and Majors,” said Gavin.
Following a breakthrough year, the big-hitting Malaysian is eager to test his skills against Team Europe at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club on Jan 12-14.
The Taiwan Masters winner believes Asia is in good hands under captain Arjun Atwal of India.
“Arjun is a great captain because he has played and won on the PGA Tour (Wyndham Championship in 2010). He has put together a very strong team. You have to play solid all year to qualify for the EurAsia Cup, so it is a great opportunity for all of us,” he said.
Team Europe comprise Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Paul Casey, Paul Dunne, Ross Fisher, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Alex Levy, Alex Noren, Thomas Pieters, Henrik Stenson and Bernd Wiesberger.
