SEPANG: Malaysia’s ‘Prince of Drift’,Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel, today expressed confidence in being able to repeat last year’s success by emerging as champion of the 2018 Sepang 1,000km Endurance Race (S1K) once again which will be held at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this Sunday.

However, Tengku Djan and his teammate, Keifli Othman along with another driver who will represent team R Engineering for this race, will be using a Honda Jazz this time round compared to the Proton Iriz when with team Proton R3 Motorsports last year.

Tengku Djan said they chose to use a Honda Jazz as their track weapon of choice because it can take a beating, is durable and has a good track record with no problems or issues whatsoever when raced prior to this.

Following this, Tengku Djan and his teammates are fully prepared to race and face any obstacles and challenges that might come their way, including uncertain weather conditions and potential heavy rains forecasted throughout the race on Sunday.

“All the drivers are hoping for good weather as well as a safe, consistent race this Sunday. However I forsee that we will have rainy weather for at least two hours and hot and humid weather for the rest of the day following uncertain weather conditions.

“We do not mind if the circuit is wet or dry because every team has tyres for wet and dry conditions,” he said during the S1K press conference earlier today.

This year’s race will feature actors from the film ‘Polis Evo’ and famed local comedian Zizan Razak who will race for team AFR-Mayhem Racing.

Speaking further on his team, Tengku Djan said he was happy to have a teammate such as Keifli who has similar taste and driving style as he does which goes a long way in making things easier for the team’s engineers who don’t have to spend so much time preparing the race car so differently according to each driver’s needs and requirements.

However, Tengku Djan stressed that they need to watch out for a few other teams who are capable of winning the race.

“We will be going all out for the win and hope our car does not encounter any problems or issues during the nine hour race covering a distance of 1,000km,” he said.
