SEPANG: Promising karter Putera Adam Halim will be following in the footsteps of his idol and Formula One driver Max Verstappen as the Malaysian has been selected to race for CRG Racing Team in Europe this year.
Adam will be making his debut with CRG at the Winter Cup in Lonato, Italy on Feb 14-18, followed by the Sarno round of the WSK Super Master (April 5-8), also in Italy.
He will also be competing in the CIK-FIA European Championship series this season where he will compete in five legs in Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, France and Sweden on April 18-Sept 23.
Among CRG's former drivers were Verstappen, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
The 12-year-old left for Italy on Thursday.
Adam, who is making the step up from the mini to junior category this year, stressed that he needs to hit the ground running.
"I feel lucky to be able to join CRG as it is one of the best teams in Italy. Obviously, I am very happy," said Adam, when met at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
"Max (Verstappen) also used to race for this team and he is someone I admire a lot as he is very confident and aggressive. He started very young (in Formula One) and I hope to do the same.
"The junior category will be tougher compared to the mini category as it is a faster kart and the steering is heavier. I will have to adapt quickly to the new team and also the different chassis.
"My goal is to finish in the top 10 at the Winter Cup and hopefully finish in the top-three in the overall standings in the European Championship series."
CRG Racing decided to sign on Adam based on his performance in the WSK Super Master Series over the past two years. Adam had previously raced with Gamoto ASD.
